VICE-PRESIDENTS
Our Honorary Vice Presidents are three well-known Londoners, whose role is to help attract support and increase interest in nuclear disarmament among Londoners. Together with London CND officers, they act as spokespeople for our work in the capital.
Jenny Jones settled in London in 1991. She is a qualified archaeologist and spent nearly 10 years working as an archaeologist before rising to political prominence. A former Chair of the Green Party, Jenny is best known in London for her role as an elected member of the Greater London Assembly and Deputy Mayor of London in 2003-4. Nowadays, Jenny is Baroness Jones of Moulsecoomb, a title she takes from the council estate she grew up on. She continues to campaign on nuclear disarmament, as well as civil liberties and climate change.
Emma Dent Coad was MP for Kensington 2017-19 and is best known as the first Labour MP ever to win the seat. The Grenfell Tower fire happened only days after Emma’s election, and she became a nationally-recognised figure criticising Kensington and Chelsea Council for their failings, which led to what she considered an ‘entirely preventable’ tragedy. A long-time opponent of nuclear weapons, Emma was Labour Vice Chair of Parliamentary CND whilst an MP. She was born and educated in London, graduating from the Royal College of Art with an MA in the History of Design. Emma has been a Kensington Councillor since 2006, and continues in that role today as an independent councillor.
Murad Qureshi, whose family hails from Bangladesh, was born in Greater Manchester and brought up in Westminster. At university, he specialised in environmental economics and maintains a keen interest in South Asia, in particular the potential for nuclear conflict between Pakistan and India. Murad was a member of the London Assembly from 2004-16, and again in 2020-21. He is a former chair of Stop the War Coalition, and an avid football fan.
