Join London CND and Japan Against Nuclear to commemorate Nagasaki Day. Starting with a Pax Christi ecumenical service in Chelsea, commemorations will include a peace walk to Battersea Park’s Peace Pagoda for the Nagasaki Day Commemorations.

4-5pm — Pax Christi Ecumenical Service

All welcome at the ecumenical service at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Cheyne Row, SW3 5HS. The service commemorates the 83rd anniversary of the death of Blessed Franz Jagerstatter who was executed in 1943 for refusing to serve in Hitler’s army and beatified in October 2007.

5-7pm — Nagasaki Day Commemoration at the London Peace Pagoda

Following the service, a peace walk will make the short trip to the London Peace Pagoda in Battersea Park for the annual Nagasaki Day commemoration ceremony.

The ceremony will bring together people of different faiths, communities and backgrounds to remember the victims of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki and reflect on the devastating consequences of nuclear weapons.

Hosted by Reverend Gyoro Nagase of the Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist order, the ceremony will include prayers, reflections and contributions from peace campaigners.

Participants are invited to lay flowers and offer incense in remembrance of those who lost their lives in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and of all people affected by nuclear weapons.

5 - 6pm — Peace Walk from Holy Redeemer Catholic Church - Peace Pagoda, Battersea Park
6 - 7pm — Nagasaki commemoration ceremony.

The London commemoration of Nagasaki Day is organised by Reverend Gyoro Nagase, of the Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist order, which built the peace pagoda, and supported by Japanese Against Nuclear (JAN) and London Region CND.
