Remembering Belle Harris, Tower Hamlets CND

Belle Harris has passed away aged 96.

Belle Harris, 26 August 1929 to 8 April 2026

London CND remembers Belle Harris a long-time member of Tower Hamlets CND who passed away at the age of 96, and send our good wishes to Belle’s relative and friends.

Belle Harris was a supporter of Tower Hamlets CND for many years, and a regular presence at London CND  meetings. Many of our supporters across London will recall Belle providing fare for our picnic which followed London CND’s Hiroshima Day commemoration in Tavistock Square, which she did over many years  until poor health prevented her from attending.

She was an activist all her life, supporting many progressive causes. Belle was a Labour Councillor in Hamlets Labour for 19 years, one of eight rebels who voted against social service cuts in 1998. Sending condolences to her friends and family, Apsana Begum MP described Belle as ‘a force of nature’.
